Weekly
- Friday Happy Hour
Held at the Fox and Hounds, 5:00-7:00pm except on the 4th
Friday each month - then it's 8pm. This is a friendly event
where it's easy to meet new bears and connect with old friends.
Cocktails at the Fox are lethal, so treat yourself to shelf
liquor and limit yourself to one or two. It's also a great
place to grab a quick bite before moving on with your weekend.
Monthly
- BearPaw Bust
Every 1st Sunday of the month at the Eagle Portland - 835
N Lombard. 4:00-8:00pm Pat feeds us a meal (it's $4 for non-members)
and the bar serves mixed drinks as well as beer & wine.
It's conveniently located a few blocks off of the Max yellow
line. There's porn on the big screen and a laid-back friendly
atmosphere. The bar is non-smoking, but you can light up on
the covered (and heated) patio in the back.
Monthly
- Bear Bust
It's also our Monthly Membership Meeting, but we keep the
announcements to a minimum.
It's held every 3rd Saturday of the month, from 9pm to midnight
at the Eagle Portland - 835 N Lombard.
Monthly
- Bears Movie Night
Video nights hosted at a Bear's home. Always refer to the
Calendar of Events for location. This is usually a smallish
event (no more than 20 guys), so it's a great, no-pressure
way of meeting some of the guys and really getting a chance
to talk. Since it's held at a house, it feels more like a
small private party, and people are really laid back and friendly.
It's a lot of fun to watch a movie with this group. Even films
you didn't enjoy at the theater are a lot of fun once this
group tears into it. Think about bringing a snack to share
and it's always a good idea to bring what you want to drink.
Monthly
- Double X Dance
Held the 4th Friday of every month, and modeled after SF's
Planet Big popular dance event, Oregon Bears get down on the
dance floor or just hang out together with some good music
at CC Slaughter's club on NW Davis in old town Portland. 9:00pm-midnight
- No cover charge and drink discounts with a valid Oregon
Bears Membership Card. This event usually draws the biggest
crowd of all our events. It's probably a little harder to
meet people at this event, because the music is loud and the
crowd is dense, but it's worth it to see all the yummiest
bears that Portland has to offer all under one roof. Plus,
it's just fun to dance with the Bears.
Monthly
- Bear Brunch
Final Sunday of every month - 11am
At varying locations around the area. Check out the calendar
for this month's location. Again, this is a great event for
meeting people, since the noise level is low and you're sitting
with the same folks for a couple of hours. Since we don't
make reservations, please be tolerant of the service. Even
the best restaurants can be slow when you ask them to serve
a group of thirty bears at once.
Annual
- Camp Oregon Bears
Held yearly, the bears head out into the woods in the mountains
or the coast and commune with nature. Meals are shared, our
traditional furry face and buns contest... this event grows
every year and has become a big hit for bears from all over!
For more information, write to campout@oregonbears.org
or check out the main page of the web.
Annual
- Beartown Weekend
Beartown Weekend is always a huge success, with bears visiting
from Vancouver BC, San Francisco, Seattle, Atlanta, Arizona,
NY, Maryland, Alaska and more. Beartown Weekend is the Oregon
Bears yearly bear weekend held typically in June in conjunction
with Portland's Rose Festival. It's packed with fun events,
parties and our Oregon Bear/Cub contest. If you would like
more information about this event, check out the link at the
top of the page.
Annual
- Teddy Bear Drive/Holiday Show
Annual Event Held during holiday season. We raise thousands
of dollars for our charity. Essentially it's a combination
drag show and bear talent show, which is amazingly entertaining
given that pretense. Believe me, you won't be bored. Bring
your checkbook, since the auction has some really fun items
at all price points. And bring a bunch of dollar bills to
tip your favorite acts.
Annual
- Thanksgiving Potluck
Historically held at the North Bank Tavern in downtown Vancouver
WA from 4pm to 7 pm on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This
group cooks surprisingly well, so it's worth it to come to
this.
Annual
- Portland Gay Pride Festival
(Normally on same weekend as Father's Day in June)
Festival at Tom McCall Waterfront Park. The Oregon Bears have
a booth each year and walk/ride in the parade on Sunday.
Annual
- Bear Summer Picnic

lot of fun.

Occasional
- New Member Welcome
As scheduled by our membership or administrative secretaries,
the new member event is a welcome and get-to-know-you get
together to welcome new OR Bear members and let them get to
meet other new folks and our Board members. Usually held before
the monthly bear bust, this gathering is a great way to make
new friends in the OR Bears.
